Creating objects is like playing with the forces ofnature on scale.

The natural sciences and specifically the characteristics of materials are David Derksen's main sourcesof inspiration.The behaviour of materials and theirprocessing and construction methods are the mainfocus of his work. In his designs he tries to expressthe beauty of materials and the way objects aremade.

David Derksen graduated in 2oo9 at the Design Academy Eindhoven and completed his MSc de- greein 2o11 at Industrial Design TU Delft. During his studies he started his studio in Rotterdamwhere he works on new lighting,furniture and otherinterior products.He alternates between industrialdesign and more experimental projects where he ispushing the boundaries of materials. David Derksenworks on self initiated projects as well as commis-sioned ones.

Since 2011 the studio presents itself every year atthe Salone del Mobile in Milan. The studio collabo-rates with Dutch and international furniture brandsand galleries.In 2015 David Derksen has been nom-inated for the Young Designer Award as part of theDutch Design Awards.Currently he is a guest teach-er at Master Industrial Design at the Royal Academyof Art in The Hague and Product Design at Willem deKooning Academy in Rotterdam. In 2o19 he startedto do creative direction for wL Ceramics, a porcelainmanufacturer.
